Sympathising with The last man on earth

If you Haven't been Watching the Last man on earth. Stop reading and go do it. If you have seen it, then this is my analysis of Phil Miller. and more specifically, the situation wich arises after episode three.

This was originally a piece I wrote on a forum, but I really liked what I wrote and thought I should share it with whom ever still reads my blog

Honestly, I understand Phil. He is stuck in a situation where all of us would be frustrated. Even so, he is not to good at handling it. Imagine yourself not having sex for two years, imagine yourself never having sex again... because you are alone on this planet. Then this woman appears. She is not the girl of your dreams, but she is a woman. At this point the reptile brain kicks in, this is his only chance to ever have sex again so he takes it. It turns out though that This woman is kind of obnoxious, but you go along with it because otherwise...no sex. After getting married (honestly, WTF) you are finally having sex, but there is absolutely no attraction from your end, because you're not really in to this girl but this is what you are stuck with.

Then, out of nowhere, this other woman appears from nowhere. She is beautiful, witty, laid back and just a really cool person. Here is your chance to be with someone you like (sure, it's mostly a physical attraction but the circumstances kin of forces it to be) but you are stuck with this other woman who you're only with because you thought she was the last one on earth.

So yeah. Phil is now in a situation where he has to spend the rest of his life with a person he doesn't really like, and just around the corner there is this amazing woman who, even if Phil divorced Carol, would never be with him because the three of them are forced to engage in each others company. This is a stalemate and Phil just wishes he would've held out for a few more days.

Because what if he never married Carol? what if they just hung out as friends when Melissa appeared. Phil then could have pursued Melissa and stayed friends with Carol. Would you call him creepy then? No you wouldn't, but because he is afraid of conflicts and knows that what ever he does Melissa will always be out of his reach, but he still tries to make a connection, that makes him a creep.

I am not saying his methods are just, but I understand him and I am not judging him. Because who are we to judge?
